What a cool little gizmo this is. The Dymo LabelManager Label Printer, Black/Gray (LM360D) arrived yesterday and I have now affixed labels to every inanimate object within my reach and any animate ones that didn't fight back, including the neighbor's toddler ("My name is Carson. I'm noisy, have few social skills, and I bite").Since I have no aptitude for technology, I thought this would be a challenge to use, but was very pleasantly surprised. I figured it out without any help...high praise from a woman who has to call in a friend when the alarm clock needs to be re-set. The DYMO LabelManager is, as they say, easy enough for a child to operate, and I must admit that Carson was, indeed, the one who figured out how to work the label insertion thingy. Then the little bugger bit me, but to be fair, I did take his cookie when his back was turned. The machine is so much fun to use, it's addictive. I'm wandering around looking for new... I returned it after trying unsuccessfully to create a basic label with type only.I contacted Dymo support and was told that the output of the label maker is the way it is and can't be changed. Here's my complaint: The printer accepts 3/4 inch labels and is designed to allow 2 rows of type on the label. I wanted to create a single label with 2 rows of basic type - just as the device claims it can. The output of a single line of type is fine, the problem arises when you hit the carriage return and add the second line of type. Once you do that the type stretches horizontally. For example if I type a word in a single line that is 2 inches in length, this same word will be 3-3/4 inches in length once I hit the carriage return. Using Adobe Indesign I determined that the horizontal scaling of the type on the label is almost 300%! This is a problem for 2 reasons... I was so excited to get this machine. I had a ridiculously old label maker that I got from Mom...the kind where you turn a big knob of letters and squeeze down on the letter you want, and the labels NEVER stayed in place. Compared to that, this machine is heaven-sent!It's simple to use right out of the box, and once I turned it on, I became a label making maniac! My scrapbooking/craft area is now labeled to within an inch of it's life, as well as my kitchen pantry! The labels all attach easily, and most important...THEY STAY IN PLACE!! No more bubbling! Overall, I absolutely recommend this machine. If you're a crafter or big on organization, than this is a must! I love it! |
